Welcome
The Lime Agency for Sustainable Hot/Humid Design, based in New Orleans, is a non-profit research and outreach organization dedicated to geographically responsive architectural and urban design in hot/humid tropical and subtropical regions. Hot/humid regions predominate the latitudes between 40°N and 40°S, and are home to 3.3 billion people or roughly 50% of the global population. These regions span over five continents and include the bulk of developing and newly industrialized countries - areas that are seeing dramatic increases in population, poverty, energy consumption, and pollution. In addition, these regions are prone to harsh climatic conditions, the frequent threat of natural disasters and are especially vulnerable to the impending consequences of climate change. How we choose to live and build in these areas has profound and far-reaching implications not just for hot/humid regions but for our entire planet.
The Lime Agency is dedicated to the investigation, innovation and promotion of sustainable design strategies that respond directly to the specific constraints of hot/humid regions including issues of site and climate, and the equally important social, cultural and economic considerations of a given community. We propose that the shared architectural and urban challenges of hot/humid regions can be addressed with shared resources collaboratively and on a global scale. We believe that geographically responsive design can maximize the sustainability of our built environments, minimize the impact on our natural environments and refine our shared quality of living.
